System volume to nitrogen quantity.
System volume, target O₂, method — out comes the nitrogen quantity to order.
How this is calculated.
Dilution purging replaces the atmosphere in cycles; the nitrogen needed to bring air (21% O₂) to a target follows the well-mixed relation. Displacement pushes a single slug slightly larger than the system volume — geometry and dead-legs decide which purges cleaner.
dilution: N₂ = V · ln(O₂ᵢ / O₂ₜ) displacement: N₂ = V · 1.5
Questions
Dilution vs displacement?
Dilution pressurises and vents in cycles; displacement pushes a nitrogen slug through once. Geometry and dead-legs decide which purges cleaner.
