The Glossary
The industry's shorthand.
Every term links to the service or tool where it earns its keep.
- CT (Coiled Tubing)A continuous reel of small-diameter pipe run into live wells for cleanouts, acidising, and nitrogen lifting — intervention without killing the well.
- Depth of Discharge (DoD)The share of a battery's capacity used per cycle. Lithium systems tolerate ~80% DoD; lead-acid far less — the number that quietly sizes your bank.
- HWU (Hydraulic Workover Unit)A compact hydraulic rig used to re-enter and work over wells — snubbing pipe in and out under pressure — without mobilising a full drilling rig.
- HydrotestPressure-testing a pipeline or vessel with water above design pressure to prove integrity before service — certified with calibrated recorders.
- ILI (In-Line Inspection)Inspecting a pipeline from the inside using instrumented tools ('intelligent pigs') that travel with the product flow, mapping corrosion, dents, and wall loss without excavation.
- LTI (Lost-Time Injury)A work injury causing an employee to miss at least one full shift. Our count across four audited years: zero.
- MFL (Magnetic Flux Leakage)An ILI technology that magnetises the pipe wall and reads flux 'leaking' at metal-loss defects — the workhorse method for corrosion detection.
- NUPRCThe Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission — the regulator issuing the permits under which upstream service companies like ours operate.
- OML (Oil Mining Lease)A licence granting rights to produce petroleum within a defined Nigerian acreage — the 'address' of most field projects (e.g. OML 58, OML 61).
- PiggingSending devices ('pigs') through a pipeline — to clean, gauge, separate products, or (as smart pigs) inspect the line from within.
- Pre-CommissioningEverything that proves a new pipeline before product enters: flooding, cleaning, gauging, hydrotesting, dewatering, drying, and inerting.
- SMYSSpecified Minimum Yield Strength — the guaranteed yield stress of a pipe grade (e.g. X65 = 65,000 psi), central to design and test pressure calculations.
